PABR League Update on COVID-19

Posted by Palo Alto Babe Ruth Baseball at Mar 15, 2020 10:28PM PDT

To our players, families and baseball community,

The COVID-19 pandemic unfolding in our community has become a new reality for everyone. Like many local organizations that serve youth sports, we are asking ourselves: What is the best course of action?

With safety as our top priority, Palo Alto Babe Ruth has decided to follow precautions that are consistent with local school districts and counties.

Currently, PAUSD spring sports are on hold through April 10 and Baylands Athletic Center is closed by the city until April 4. Therefore, we are proceeding as follows:

• We are postponing our Prep Season until at least April 10
• We are preparing for a normal 15U Season and optimistic to begin in two months on May 16
• If either the Prep Season or 15U Season gets cancelled, all families will receive a 100% refund
• We will provide weekly email updates and will soon add an FAQ section here on our website at pababeruth.org

With the disappointment of schools closing and seasons getting postponed, we are hopeful to get a sense of normalcy back and provide a great experience to our local baseball community as soon as it’s safe to play ball.

Sincerely,

PABR Board of Directors

This season runs from mid-May through the end of June. This is a more competitive league than Prep League, but many of the players who participate in the Prep League will have the opportunity to play on a 15U team.

Our 15U tryouts will be held on Sat, April 18 from 5-7pm and Sun, April 26 from 10am-12pm, both at Baylands Athletic Center in Palo Alto. Players in our Prep League do not need to attend the 15U tryout since the Prep League serves as their tryout.

Following the tryout, a draft will be held on April 28 where selected players will get drafted onto a 15U Team for the duration of their Babe Ruth careers. If your child doesn’t get drafted onto a 15U Team, you’ll receive a 100% refund, which means there’s really zero downside to registering. Our 15U Season is fairly compact, allowing players to enjoy Babe Ruth with minimal travel ball conflicts and fully participate after their high school seasons have finished.

At the end of our 15U Season, the top four teams earn the opportunity to compete in our coveted City Championship Tournament. Registration is $475 and closes April 26.

Join the fun: We’re a volunteer, community-based league, so we welcome all families to apply for Manager/Coaching spots or Board Member roles. Just let us know during registration!

There are no tryouts or cuts, so every player who registers is guaranteed a spot to play in this season which runs from March to May. Our Prep Season is a developmental league designed to help younger players develop their skills on the full-sized diamond and prepare players for our 15U Season.

It includes two weeks of preseason clinic-style practices, a player draft, and an eight week season featuring one practice and two games per week for each team culminating in a fun City Championship Tournament. The league features minimum playing time rules to allow all players a chance to play in each game.

The Prep League is open to all 7th and 8th graders, as well as any high school student not on a high school baseball roster. Full refunds are issued if a player makes his/her high school team and is unable to play Prep, so there is no risk in registering. Registration is $475.
